Jonny Quest Production Art (1986)

The images below, while mostly based on the original models used in the 1964 series, and often very similar to them, were actually, I believe, used to promote "The New Adventures of Jonny Quest", the second JQ series premiering in 1986. (If this is not correct, I would appreciate hearing from someone with evidence/info to the contrary.) It is only because of their basis on the original 1964 show, and their similarity to those images, that we show them here.

These images are part of a collection of five Jonny Quest "Cast Press Photos" which apparently were sent out to TV stations. These 8-inch by 10-inch black & white photographs are marked "Worldvision Enterprises Inc." Worldvision Enterprises was not involved in the original 1964 release of Jonny Quest; however, they did release a series of video tapes to promote the original series in the mid 1980's. It is thought this occurred to promote the upcoming 1986 "The New Adventures of Jonny Quest" series.

Jonny Quest "Cast Photo"
Note the lack of black markings around Bandit's eyes; this happened on a number of "official" images, for reasons unknown. No known occurrences of this type of error are known from any images used in 1964, making this one of the signs for recognizing an image released for the 1986 series.
Here is another version of the image which is a bit larger, quite a bit cleaner, and just all-around better.
Jonny Quest and Bandit
This image was created by enlarging the Jonny and Bandit images from the overall cast photo and placing them in a separate photo. We can tell that the individual character images were positioned separately, since:
1. the separation between Jonny and Bandit is increased in this image as compared to the overall cast image
2. the line representing the surface of the ground was extended so it still reached Jonny's leg (but you can still see where the original line ended)
3. the orientation of the characters is slightly different (the ground underneath Bandit slopes downward a bit more in this image).
Hadji saves Jonny
This image was apparently based on the classic episode "Calcutta Adventure", except in the episode, Hadji saves Dr. Quest, not Jonny. One has to wonder why "history was altered" -- I suspect it was for marketing purposes. Note how the comment under the image reads how Hadji was able to save Jonny even before Race could do anything. It was this "the kids are super-kids" attitude that contributed to the rapid demise of the second series.

This image is a copy of the image originally released for the 1964 TV show; IMHO, it is slightly inferior, with many small details having been removed. Here's the original version for comparison.
Jonny, Hadji. and Bandit on speedboat
This is a new image, for once not a copy of one issued for the 1964 show. Look closely at the image of Jonny and you can tell this one was done using the 1986 models instead of any of the 1964 ones; presumably Hadji and Bandit were also drawn from the 1986 models. Also note: the speedboat is moving rapidly (as evidenced by the wake at the boat's bow) but no one is driving! Both Hadji and Jonny show both hands away from any controls.
